Transport in Fiji

Exploring Fiji’s 333 islands might sound overwhelming, but don’t worry! Fiji offers a variety of options to get around, whether you prefer to fly, cruise, or drive.

BY ROAD

Navigating Fiji’s two largest islands is a breeze thanks to well-paved highways connecting the towns and cities.

Private Transfers

Most hotels can arrange airport transfers, just let them know your flight details, and inquire about their pickup policy. If you prefer private transfers, you can pre-book through local tour or transfer companies.

Bus

Buses are a cheap option for inter-city travel, and they operate on an electronic ticketing system. Disposable cards can be purchased from bus checkers and stay valid for 30 days, refundable in cash at a Vodafone retail outlet.

Taxi

Taxis are available outside of the Nadi Airport arrivals terminal, with four-seater yellow cabs starting at FJ$5.00. Seven-seater vans are available for larger groups, but expect to pay a bit more. LT taxis are metered, while LH taxis have fixed distance rates, so be sure to check with your hotel reception about general taxi costs before flagging one down. Self-driving is a great way to explore Fiji’s towns and scenic spots at your own pace. Pre-book a rental online with any of the companies at Nadi International Airport, located just outside the International Arrivals terminal. You’ll need a valid driver’s license in English and a credit card.

BY AIR

Flying is the fastest and easiest way to travel off of Viti Levu, with Fiji Link and Northern Air flying to most small airports around the country.

Charter flights are available from Nadi Airport, including scenic helicopter, seaplane, or small aircraft tours.

BY SEA

Ferry

Ferries are a popular and affordable way to see the islands. South Sea Cruises operates daily passenger ferries from Port Denarau to the stunning Mamanuca and Yasawa islands. The Tavewa Seabus departs daily from Lautoka Wharf and services the route between Lautoka and the Yasawa Islands. Inter-island ferries are a no-frills option for cheap travel between Viti Levu and Vanua Levu, and great for self-drives as you can bring your car onboard.

Water Taxi

Water taxis depart from Port Denarau Marina, Vuda Marina, and Lautoka Wharf for those looking for a more personalized ride.
